COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Update

During the COVID-19 (coronavirus) outbreak, there are extreme challenges on provision of all health services. In order to aid with delivery of emergency care and protect the welfare of clients, Echo Sexual Health services will offer face-to-face consultations to a very limited number of individuals with the most urgent sexual/reproductive health needs.

You should not walk in to the service to be seen during the COVID-19 outbreak. All previously booked appointments are cancelled until further notice

‘I have no sexual health symptoms and just need a check up’.The kit will be delivered discreetly to your home and you will get your results within 4 days. This service is available to residents of Enfield, See the Sexual Health London website for full details.

If you have no sexual health symptoms and need a check up only, please visit www.silverpoint.shl.uk or   www.enfield.shl.uk for a home testing kit.

 

‘I think I have a sexually transmitted infection’ OR

‘I have a confirmed sexually transmitted infection from online testing’ OR

‘I have had contact with someone with a sexually transmitted infection’

To speak to a doctor/nurse, call 0208 8874510 providing your name, age, telephone number and preferred time for calling and you will be informed when a clinician will phone you. If the clinician decides you need to be seen face-to-face, an appointment will be booked for you to come into the clinic. If you are asked to attend the clinic, you should not come if you develop fever, flu-like or respiratory symptoms or have contact with a confirmed or suspected case of COVID-19.

If you are aged over 18 please contact your GP. Residents of other boroughs of any age should contact their local sexual health service or GP.

 

I want an IUD (coil) or Implant inserted’

No routine appointments for IUDs or Implants will be available during the COVID-19 outbreak. If you wish to discuss with a clinician for emergency IUD, to speak to a doctor/nurse, call 0208 8874510 providing your name, age, telephone number and preferred time for calling and you will be informed when a clinician will phone you. Please specify you need emergency contraception. If the clinician decides you need a coil fitted, an appointment will be booked for you to come into the clinic. If you are asked to attend the clinic, you should not come if you develop fever, flu-like or respiratory symptoms or have contact with a confirmed or suspected case of COVID-19.

 

‘I need emergency hormonal contraception (‘morning after pill’)’

Please specify you need emergency contraception. If the clinician decides you need to be seen face-to-face, an appointment will be booked for you to come into the clinic. ‘I need my coil (IUD or IUS) removed’

Please call 0208 8874510 providing your name, age, telephone number and preferred time for calling and you will be informed when a clinician will phone you. We will only be doing removals in certain situations. If the clinician decides you need to be seen face-to-face, an appointment will be booked for you to come into the clinic. If you are asked to attend the clinic, you should not come if you develop fever, flu-like or respiratory symptoms or have contact with a confirmed or suspected case of COVID-19.

 

‘I think I need PEP (post exposure prophylaxis)’

If the clinician decides you need to be seen face-to-face, an appointment will be booked for you to come into the clinic. ‘I need a prescription of PrEP’

‘I need a vaccination for hepatitis B (HBV)/human papilloma virus’ 

No patients will be seen for vaccines during the COVID-19 outbreak and should consult back to services when the outbreak has been declared over.

 

Preparing for your appointment

If you are invited for a face-to-face consultation, you should not come if you have fever, flu-like or respiratory symptoms or have contact with a confirmed or suspected case of COVID-19.

 

 

If you are having an emergency IUD (coil) fitted
An emergency IUD can be fitted up to five days after unprotected sex. You can have it fitted at any time in your menstrual cycle provided this is the only unprotected sex you have had since your last period. If you have had unprotected sex more than once since your last period, then an emergency IUD can be fitted up to five days after the earliest time you could have released an egg (ovulation).

 

Having an IUD or IUS (coil) removed
If you want to have an IUD or IUS removed and you are not planning a pregnancy, it is important that you use condoms or do not have sex for seven days before your appointment.

 

Male patients
Do not pass urine for at least one hour before you attend the clinic.

 

Childcare
Do not bring children to your consultation- you will be asked to leave.

 

Chaperone
If you need to be examined you can ask to have a second member of staff (chaperone) present.

Please note, due to staff shortages, if no chaperone is available on the day of your appointment, you may need to reschedule your appointment.
